Centre of education of the Spanish Air force, and headquarters of the famous Patrulla Águila (Eagle Patrol). The academy cannot be visited with the exception of some occassional activities , but it is possible to admire the entrance and the long central avenue that leads to the dependences.
The runways are shared for the civil use by the Airport of Murcia-San Javier.

URBAN CENTER OF SANTIAGO DE LA RIBERA
Santiago de la Ribera was born at the end of the XIXth century, from Frey José Mª Barnuevo y Rodrigo de Villamayor, Gentleman of the Order of Santiago and owner of the land Torre Mínguez.
This land was parcelled and arranged in the shape of squared pattern, The above mentioned plots were sold “ to census “ to villagers and wealthy people of Murcia.
This way we find a perfectly developed town, whose centre turns around the Avenue Sandoval and Esplanada Barnuevo, with a wide variety of trades, restaurants, bars, etc.
Torre Minguez, the original house of the land, still stands and its great frontal garden can be watched from outside the fence.
BARRIADA, ERMITA Y PINADA DE SAN BLAS
The neighbourhood of san Blas is located between San Javier and Santiago de la Ribera, close to the place called “La Calavera” (“The Skull”).
The original hermitage of XVI century, gives name the to the neighbourhood, and it is inside the dependences of an ancestral mansion.
Between pinegroves, we can admire other houses, as Tower Garcia (s. XVII-XVIII), or Benimar (1910), of style neomudejar.
Close to the modern urbanization of one-family properties, we find the new hermitage dedicated to San Blas, where annually there is a Pilgrimage declared as Tourist Regional Interest, which congregates thousands of people of the whole region.
The extensive pine forest next to the hermitage is a place of meeting of the group of friends that prepare his paellas on February the 3rd.
THE CHURCH OF SAN FRANCISCO JAVIER
The church of San Francisco Javier has a wide range of artistic sculptures (most of them carved in stewed and polychrome wood) altarpieces, liturgical apparel, etc.
One of the important pieces is its pulpit in carved wood, which is attached to a column.
It is worthy of mention the great beauty of the Altarpiece, of baroque style, its author was the murcian sculptor Mr. Antonio Carrión Valverde.

ALMANSA PARK GARDENS
It is the biggest park in San Javier. It is important to stand out the structure of arches of his entry and the long pergola.
Inside the park the Municipal Auditorium can be found, that is the San Javier’s most important cultural forum. The Auditorium is an outdoor construction and has a hemicycle shape, that recalls the classic theatres spirit, with an architecture that favours the acoustic and the visualization from any point of the building. In the Auditorium numerous cultural activities are celebrated annually, being the most important the International Festival of Theatre and Dance and the International Festival of Jazz.
The park also has in his interior a tent, headquarters of the local festivities in December and others cultural and festivity activities.
The Civic Centre is also located inside the park, and the dependences of the Youth center and the Agency of Local Development.
Next to the park, we can find the facilities of the Official School of Languages and the Professional Conservatoire of Music.
Very nearby we can find the modern Local Library, inaugurated in 2007, with excellent facilities, and that organizes many exhibitions and activities all the year round.
SEA FRONT PROMENADE OF SANTIAGO DE LA RIBERA, RESORTS, NAUTICAL SPORTCLUB AND SUMMER’S VILLAS
Probably the nicest promenade in the Mar Menor, a two-kilometre walk recently remodelled, flanked by centenary palms, and pedestrian.
We can enjoy the beach and the sea in one side and we can admire the different houses of summer vacation of ends of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century: Chalet Barnuevo, Casa Conde Lisea, Villa San Francisco Javier, Torre Javiera, Villa la Pinada…
Close to these antique buildings, not more of half a dozen of towers of apartments coexist, which award to Santiago de la Ribera a very particular skyline.
The Nautical sport Club appears as a visual milestone of a great presence in the tour of the promenade, this construction reminds the form of a sailing ship.
It’s worthy of mentioning the Balnearios: elements that rise on the surface of the sea, along the shore of the beach.
This balnearios arose as spaces designated to keep the bath equipment of the high social class families. The wood gangplanks lead us to high platforms equipped with dressing rooms, showers, shade areas to stay, and stairs that were descending down to the sea. They are administrative concessions to nearby and particular buildings, and they are protected as buildings with cultural interest.
Along the promenade, there are numerous terraces and kiosks, opened almost all the year round, to give the visitor the chance of enjoying lunch or dinner, an ice cream or simply a refreshment in a nice environment close to the sea.
COLONIA RUIZ DE ALDA-CITY OF AIR
Residential neighbourhood of the military members that give theirs services in the Air force Military Academy.
The block of houses are defined from streets that form a parallel reticle and perpendicularly at the edge of the sea.
This neighbourhood is an arrangement of a very low density, where every property count with a generous private garden.
THE HITA BEACH
Between Santiago de la Ribera and Los Alcazares, once you pass the Airport and the Camping, you will find the Hita beach, an ancient salt mines already abandoned. A rich vegetation covers the coast and shelters small wetlands, where the houseleek stands out.
The European Union catalogue this beach as ZEPA (special zone protected for birds), since it is one of the redoubts that stay both flora and fauna original of the Mar Menor.
PLAZA DE ESPAÑA
La Plaza de España is San Javier’s neuralgic and commercial centre.
In 2003, there was an ambitious project to join both the old squares in just one, with the Town hall and the church on each side of it and many business premises that give life to the square.
The town of San Javier has become the administrative capital of the Mar Menor because of its many services and full range of facilities such as the courts, the record of the property, dependences of social security, the employment office, as well as banks and notaries among other services.
We can enjoy the terraces that keep open all the year round; and there is an underground car park that helps to park in the centre.
The wide square is also the centre of numerous cultural and festivities events throughout the year. The most important event is the Nativity `Belen de España´ every Christmas, which is on a surface of 1.600 m2.
The narrow Andrés Baquero street leads to the Plaza Maestre, another great open space with a recreation area. From there we can admire the beautiful restoration of the back part of the church.
RODA: ESTATE, HERMITAGE AND GOLF
Roda is an old quarter of San Javier’s Municipality. Stands out Roda’s Farm, old farming house, constructed between 1610 and 1620, on a previous building of the XV century. It has a front wall of the XVIII century, which communicates with a great court, the house, the tower and wide Mediterranean gardens. From the first floor of the Mansion there is the acces to Roda’s hermitage, which construction attributes to Jaime Bort, architect who constructed the front of the Cathedral of Murcia. In the chapels there are several images and two Mariano Ballester’s splendid pieces. It was built in the 18th century, in 1908 it was donated to the bishopric of Cartagena.
Recently, Roda has turned into a residential important point, where it has been constructed several urbanizations and one of the best golf courses of the coast of Murcia.
In the municipality of san Javier there are some windmills, most of them in poor condition, because they are not been used since the half of s. the XXth century.
They are of Mediterranean style, the tower, horizontal axis crossed by four couples of rods, eight triangular candles and gyratory ceiling.
His origin dates back of the XVII and XVIII th century.
There are 6 mills of water, 1 mill of flour and 2 mills of salt. Location: San Javier, La Grajuela and the north area of La Manga del Mar Menor, and they are registered as “Bien de Interés Cultural”.
VILLA EL RETIRO Y FINCA EL RECUERDO
Villa del Retiro (1900), has been recently restored and it has a private use. Of colonial / vernacular style, it is one of the most singular villas in the area.
La finca del Recuerdo of XIX century and vernacular style, it is abandoned at present. It is a typical house of this area, with a main house, and behind, an indoor patio, there are buildings for storage and self-production.
